The goal of Citizen Advocates for Animals (CAFA) is to end the brutality towards the white-tailed deer in Lakeway, TX.
The current "Bait, Trap and Kill" method causes many hours of suffering to the deer before they are killed. We want to use humane options that will cause
no suffering or deaths to the deer.
Once we have success in Lakeway, then we plan to help other communities that are faced with the same cruelty. We are using the media, social media, newsletters,
petitions, fundraisers, etc. to educate the public about this vile method used for deer management. A wildlife biologist will perform a population
estimate, hopefully in August. Later, once approved by Texas Parks and Wildlife, there will be surgeries (ovariectomies) that will render the female
deer sterile. The total costs for this first year will be close to $88,185. The program will continue for 3 years, but the costs will drop annually
due to less deer to sterilize. Once local vet volunteers are on board, the expenses will continue to fall.
